New York Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt will enter the 2023 season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
Hyatt, a standout player for the Tennessee Vols in 2022, won the Biletnikoff Award last season after catching 67 passes for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns (a program record).
The South Carolina native burst onto the national scene after recording five touchdowns in Tennessee's thrilling 52-49 win over Alabama last season.
Despite winning the Biletnikoff Award last season, Hyatt faced a significant amount of criticism during the pre-draft process. Questions about Hyatt's size and route-running abilities were constant ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a result, Hyatt fell to the Giants in the third round.
The former Vol is an incredibly hard worker — he famously put in extra work after his big game against Alabama — and he's eager to prove the doubters wrong.
Rookie stat projections for Jalin Hyatt
USA Today made some predictions for various rookies this week, including Jalin Hyatt.
The national media outlet predicted that Hyatt will catch 42 passes for 750 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.
From USA TODAY: There are not a ton of weapons on the Giants’ roster, despite their best efforts heading into the draft in acquiring Darren Waller and Parris Campbell. With the selection of Hyatt in the third round, New York secures the best deep threat in the class. Mike Kafka is going to come up with multiple ways to get the ball into Hyatt’s hands, and he could prove to be one of the steals of the class.
Those obviously aren't mindblowing numbers for an NFL wide receiver, but that would be a very solid rookie year for Hyatt. And it would instantly end the talk about his size and route-running abilities.
After watching the way Hyatt improved from 2021 to 2022, I'm not sure how anyone could doubt him. It's obvious that Hyatt is on a mission to make an impact in the NFL.
