The New York Giants’ loss to the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football was embarrassing. Their 33-15 loss was another disappointing performance that somehow wasn’t even their worst moment of 2025.
From the jump, there was a clear, massive separation between the two franchises. The Patriots flew all over the field with a vicious intent to make electrifying plays and deliver punishing hits. It was apparent the Giants were operating with an interim defensive coordinator, as the Patriots gashed them for 395 yards.
There’s very little to take away positively from a game in which it’s clear these teams are trending in completely different directions. However, the Patriots’ trajectory is the silver lining of the loss.
If the Patriots can dominate with such ease in the second year of their young quarterback and the first year of their head coach, why can’t the Giants do the same in 2026?
The picture of a bright future
The 2024 season for the Patriots was a disappointing 4-13 year, but one that ended on a high note. Patriots fans thought they had a long way to go, but they knew they had found their young quarterback in Drake Maye to carry their team into the future.
Maye didn’t even light up the stat sheet as a rookie. He averaged only 175 pass yards per game and finished with 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He was raw, but showed promise and needed to improve his decision-making.
One year later, the right head coach hire was all Maye and the Patriots needed to become one of the best franchises in the NFL. As Maye is in the MVP race, the Patriots lead the pack in the AFC without much resistance.
I say all of this to say that the Giants are headed in the right direction to shock the league in 2025. They need to hire the right man to lead them, and today feels like evidence that they should go after an accomplished former head coach like Vrabel. Is that Matt Nagy, Rob Saleh, Mike McCarthy, or Jon Gruden? We’ll have to find out.
Abdul Carter’s first real sack
Giants rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter finally got a sack! Carter was able to finally break through with a sack early in the second quarter.
Despite Carter having a solid rookie season, producing an abundance of pressures and setting up his teammates for big plays, he had only 0.5 sacks coming into tonight. Fans of other teams began belittling Carter’s performance. Hopefully, this opens him up to getting hot down the stretch.
Younghoe Koo has the worst FG attempt ever
I was a long snapper in college and spent my fair share of time watching kicks. I have never in my life seen someone do what Youghoe Koo did. If you had to pick one play to sum up the Giants’ season, it might have been this.
He seemingly misfired and chunked the ground like you would try to hit a golf ball as hard as you can. I’m not going to grill Koo, but this was brutal. With the season practically over, it doesn’t make sense to look for a new kicker, but you never know.
