The laziest Giants schedule release ever

While several NFL teams around the league posted creative threads, videos, and much more, the Giants decided to be lame. They made a short video interviewing pedestrians around the city about how dumb schedule release videos are. Then they decided to post the laziest made-it-in-five-minutes schedule release graphic ever. Disappointing.

The Giants may have lost the schedule release battle, but the good news is that their schedule is full of exciting matchups!

Biggest Games on the Giants 2024 Schedule

Every divisional game: The Cowboys and Eagles both won at least 11 games last season. The Commanders just drafted a game-changing first round pick. There's absolutely no bandwidth for excess divisional losses in the NFC East this year (or ever).

Giants vs Vikings: The Vikings finished 7-10 last season, but they just drafted first round quarterback, J.J. McCarthy. They'll be a prime candidate to compete for a final playoff spot with the Giants this year. And perhaps more importantly, if the Giants struggle to defeat the quarterback they could have selected to replace Daniel Jones that could spell bad news for general manager Joe Schoen.

Giants at Seahawks: If the Giants are going to have any hope in making the playoffs their conference record needs to be strong. They should matchup well with the mostly terrible NFC South teams on their schedule, but if they can pull off an upset at the Seahawks that would go a long way towards a playoff berth. The Seahawks struggle protecting Geno Smith and the Giants should have a strong pass rush. It's a great opportunity to snag an extra conference win that they won't be expected to handle.

Primetime Matchups and Streaming Service Broadcasts

Which games will be primetime viewing?

The Giants have five games that will have a time slot to themselves this season. The international game against the Panthers in Week 10 doesn't necessarily count as "primetime", but it will certainly have plenty of eyes on it (Sunday Nov. 10, 9:30am ET). The Giants then have a diverse set of primetime matchups in virtually every unique window there is for NFL games. It should be a fantastic schedule.

  • Week 4 vs Dallas Cowboys Thursday Night Football – This will be the first defining moment for the Giants 2024 season. If they can hold their own with a Dallas Cowboys team who finished top five in defensive points allowed last year Daniel Jones may be on the right trajectory after all.
  • Week 6 vs. Cincinnati Bengals Sunday Night Football – The Cincinnati Bengals will be a much improved team offensively with Joe Burrow back healthy at QB. The Bengals finished top 12 in turnover rate and QB knockdown rate last year on pass rush snaps too. This will be an extremely hard-fought defensive matchup.
  • Week 8 @ Pittsburgh Steelers Monday Night Football – The Steelers have elite edge rushers and were top five in offensive play success rate allowed last season. If the Giants can come out of Pittsburgh with a win they may actually be a playoff team in 2024.
  • Week 13 @ Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day – The story of the 2024 New York Giants may be all but written at this point of the season. Or both teams could find themselves firmly in the playoff mix. This has real potential to be an incredibly high stakes game for both teams if the season breaks just right.

Which games will you need streaming services to watch?

Luckily, New York Giants fans won't have to engage with too many extra streaming services outside of the major networks that we've all grown accustomed to over the years. The Thursday Night game on Amazon Prime against the Dallas Cowboys on Week 4 will be the only major "streamer" game on the schedule as of today.

The only way that changes is if the Week 17 or 18 game(s) get flexed into primetime spots to end the season.

Strength of Schedule (based off Vegas win totals, not 2023 record)

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis ranks strength of schedule for all 32 NFL teams every year based off of Vegas' projected win totals for all their opponents in the upcoming season. This makes more sense than simply combining win-loss record from the previous season because rosters are so drastically different year over year.

As of this writing, Sharp has the Giants with the 13th most difficult schedule for the 2024 season. That puts them near the middle of the field overall, but with the second most difficult schedule in the NFC East behind only the Cowboys, as you can see in the image below.

2024 NFL Strength of Schedule

Revenge Games on the Giants 2024 schedule

  • Brian Burns gets to face off against the Panthers in Carolina: This will be the perfect opportunity for Burns to show Carolina they made a big mistake moving off of him this off-season.
  • Bobby Okereke gets to face off against his Colts: The Colts moved off of linebacker Bobby Okereke after 2022 and he followed that up by having his best career season last year. Owning them in person will be a nice cherry on top.
  • Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles: The Giants will face off with their former feature running back twice this fall. Barkley may play with a bit more vigor to take it to the team who moved on from him..

5 Must-watch Matchups

  • Malik Nabers vs. Joey Porter Jr. of Steelers: Joey Porter Jr. shadowed several top wide receivers last season, shutting down almost every single one. Seeing how well Malik Nabers plays when given the full shadow treatment will be appointment viewing.
  • Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux vs. Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton: Thibodeaux and Burns gets to go up against two of the strong offensive tackles in the league. It will be a tough matchup, but a pivotal one to take care of business against the supposedly lowly Panthers.
  • Daniel Jones vs. DaRon Bland and the Cowboys secondary: The Cowboys secondary is absolutely stacked. If Daniel Jones wants to keep his job he'll need to do more than just avoid a complete collapse against one of the most aggressive secondaries in the NFL.
  • Giants very young secondary vs. Ja'Marr Chase and the Bengals offense: Deonte Banks, rookie safety Tyler Nubin, and rookie cornerback Andru Phillips are all highly talented, but extremely inexperienced against stopping top five wide receivers in the NFL.
  • Daniel Jones vs. the Giants offensive line: Last season Daniel Jones took 30 sacks in just six games. Thanks to some new signings and health improvements the Giants line should be improved this year, but if Jones continues taking sacks with a cleaner pocket his days may be numbered in New York.
