Dexter Lawrence says he wants out of New York, but head coach John Harbaugh isn’t ready to give up on him just because of his trade request.

Even for the city that never sleeps, it’s been a busy 24 hours in New York. Just when you thought everything was going well for the G-men, star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence came off the top rope on Monday to create a massive storyline with his trade request.

In the hours after, it was reported that a trade for Lawrence wouldn’t come cheap and that the Giants were more inclined to keep the big man than to let him go. Well, the man now running the operation, HC John Harbaugh, spoke on Tuesday, and it appears everything is on the table.

John Harbaugh addresses the Dexter Lawrence trade request

“I’m not surprised by it. We’ll try to work through it,” said Harbaugh when asked about the trade request. “I think the prospects are high,” added Harbaugh on the possibility of Lawrence returning.

Lawrence signed a 4-year contract extension less than two years ago in New York, but he has no guaranteed salary left on his deal as he heads into the second-to-last year of his contract.

Given his status among the top interior defensive linemen in the league, this clearly seems to be a push for a new deal. The problem is, not only is Lawrence coming off a “down year” by his standards, but there is a new regime leading the New York Giants.

Now, that doesn’t mean that Harbaugh would be inclined to ship him out, but teams would certainly come calling. And when the first impression you make with a new staff after a down year is that you want a new deal or more money, it probably doesn’t leave the best taste in the mouths of the new Giants brass.

What teams would be interested in trading for Dexter Lawrence?

Here at A to Z Sports, we like to do hypothetical trade offers. In yesterday’s exercise, multiple teams sent offers to the Giants, including the Bills, Jets, Chargers, Texans, Raiders, Bears, Bengals, and Vikings, and I wouldn’t be surprised if more teams come calling ahead of and during the NFL Draft.
