Giants’ Rookie Abdul Carter reveals obscure goal for his rookie season in New York that would create hairy situation
How long will it take for New York Giants rookie Adbul Carter to get his first sack in the NFL after he shared his hilarious form of motivation?
New York Giants rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter has been a one-man wrecking crew during the preseason. He’s been making his teammates look silly during training camp practices, and he was unblockable in his first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
Although it’s early, it looks like Carter will live up to the hype of being the best defensive prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. With his rookie debut against the Washington Commanders around the corner on September 7, it’s only a matter of time before Giants fans see him racking up sacks for the GMen.
And apparently, per his social media, Carter has placed a bizarre stipulation on fast-tracking his first career NFL sack.
How long will it take for Carter to get his first sack?
Carter deserves credit for finding a fun and creative way to motivate himself to get his first sack as quickly as possible. It’s very low risk and will be fun to track if his hair is getting comically long. But let’s be honest, the chances of this lasting past Week 2 are slim.
If we look back at the recent history of the best rookie pass rushers, a barber should be waiting nearby at halftime.
Carter is currently the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +250. It’s justified considering he was the highest drafted pure defensive prospect, and it doesn’t seem likely that Travis Hunter will play enough on defense to win the award.
Of the past five pass rushers to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, all five got their first NFL sack by Week 2. Four of the five did it in the first week of the season. This is how that list looks:
- 2024 Rams DE Jared Verse Week 1 vs the Lions
- 2023 Texans DE Will Anderson Week 1 vs the Ravens
- 2021 Cowboys LB Micah Parsons Week 2 vs the Chargers
- 2020 Commanders DE Chase Young in Week 1 vs the Eagles
- 2019 49ers DE Nick Bosa Week 1 vs the Bucs
Dominant rookie pass rushers registering their first sack early makes a lot of sense. Offensive coordinators are unfamiliar with new players, so they won’t effectively game-plan around avoiding them. Additionally, the general hubris of play callers would lead them to think their offensive line will have no issue with shutting down a rookie.
This applies especially to Carter because of the incredibly stacked defensive line around him. Multiple blockers already have to account for nose tackle Dexter Lawrence. Brian Burns is gifted enough to win one-on-one against most offensive linemen.
If Shane Bowen is creative, Carter could get early opportunities against the Commanders’ worst offensive lineman. Not to mention the fact that they completely reworked their offensive line this offseason, meaning their chemistry will be raw.
Carter’s first sack in the NFL will be electric. If the Giants have a sense of humor, they’d have a barber in the locker room after the game.
