The New York Giants are not having a great time and neither are their fans.
After an abysmal primetime loss that saw head coach Brian Daboll getting into a heated argument with a quarterback on his sideline. (A quarterback that just got a shiny new contract this past offseason)
It was embarrassing as the team lost to the Seattle Seahawks 24-3, putting them at 1-3 for the season and at the very bottom of their division.
The Giants have been front and center in the national media during this past offseason, and not in a good way. The whole situation regarding Saquon Barkley's contract negotiations and the team deciding to sign Daniel Jones was just messy.
Now, another mess. You'd think the brutal loss would be the worst thing to come out of the contest but that couldn't be further from the truth. RT Evan Neal ruffled some feathers with his alleged comments on the fanbase.
The entire situation stems from Darryl Slater, NFL reporter for The Star-Ledger and NJ.com.
During a segment on the Micahel Kay Show on ESPN Radio 98.7FM, also the YES Network, co-host Don La Greca was doing a segment on his response to this tweet. The entire clip played out and Greca quickly went viral for his dismissal of Neal and his apparent attack on the fanbase.
The clip began with the aftermath of the contest where Neal was alleged to have flip-off some fans. Neal was dispelling those rumors before his controversial comments about the fanbase.
"Right tackle Evan Neal looked up toward the stands, raised his arms, and gestured sarcastically. He said he did not flip off fans, but he did yell a clear message to them. They are booing us so I said ""boo louder .. Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep."
This is where Neal really crossed a line with some fans, "The person who is commenting on my performance? What does he do? Flip hot dogs or hamburgers somewhere?""
Once Greca finished reading, he exploded, "Are you kidding me? I'd cut his a**. I would.
"How dare you. These people pay your salary. They pay an obnoxious amount of money to park, an obnoxious amount of money for PSLs to sit there and watch this pap and you call them hamburger flippers?"
Greca's comments began to get a little more personal, "What you're so much better? I'd rather have a guy that's flipping hamburgers block than your piece of garbage a***."
Greca continued, "Who the hell are you to talk to fans like that, you piece of garbage, I hate when players do that. You're not above us. What, because you play a sport you're better than me?
Speaking on the taxpayers responsibilities to pay for the salaries of these players, Greca was livid, "Better than the people who play your salary. These Giant fans were here before you and they'll be here after your sorry a** is cut. What a piece of human trash. And I don't want to hear some apology,. I don't want to hear it was taken out of context. Done. Done. I would cut his fat a**.
That's when the co-host had a request for Giants fans moving forward, "You see him in the mall of Willowbrook, boo his ass**, If you see him at the DMV, boo him, don't stop booing him. If he goes to the Pro Bowl, boo him. If he wins a Super Bowl, boo his sorry a**.
One more final shot before the clip ends, "Screw that guy, we're not nobody. Flipping burgers, how do you condescend to people that pay to watch you play, poorly I may add."
His quotes truly don't do it justice, throughout the entire bit he's screaming and angry, showing just how upsetting these comments were from a team that needs to be better for their fans.
Things aren't going so great in New York right now. Luckily they have the *checks notes* Miami Dolphins up next. There are plenty of areas that this team can improve on heading into this week, maybe the first one could be clearing a few things up with the fans.
