Daniel Jones can't catch a break this season.
The New York Giants quarterback is out for the season after tearing his ACL during the loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Monday morning.
Jones went down at the end of the first quarter after his knee bent awkwardly while he was avoiding a sack. He returned for the next play, but his knee buckled and he went to the sidelines.
The Giants already feared the worst after the game, and their suspicions were confirmed after Jones received an MRI.
New York's backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is currently on injured reserve and will be sidelined for at least the next three games. They will now turn to undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito or veteran quarterback Matt Barkley, who is on the Giants practice squad.
Jones missed three weeks with a neck injury, but returned to the field for the Giants on Sunday. Yet, his return did not last long.
Jones ends the season with 108 completions for 909 passing yards and 2 touchdowns along with 40 carries for 206 rushing yards and one touchdown. It's safe to say this season has been a little disappointing for the fifth-year quarterback.
And that comes after he signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants prior to the start of this season.
The Giants are currently last in the NFC East with a 2-5 record after finishing the 2022 season with a 9-7 record and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2016.
