One of the New York Giants’ most important players is injured once again. In a season that has been plagued by injuries to key starters, they may be losing their left tackle.

During the Giants’ Week 16 battle with the Minnesota Vikings, star left tackle Andrew Thomas exited the game in the second quarter. He was later declared out at the beginning of the third quarter due to a hamstring injury.

Thomas has undoubtedly been the most impactful starting offensive linemen for the Giants throughout his entire career. Without him, there’s been a visible drop-off in the performance of the Giants’ offensive line play.

At the beginning of the Giants’ 2025 season, New York was without Thomas, who was recovering from a Lisfranc injury sustained in 2024. His unavailability caused the offensive line to struggle to provide ample time for Russell Wilson.

Having Thomas on the field is incredibly important for protecting rookie Jaxson Dart, especially given the health concerns that pop up every week.

The Giants are now turning to rookie offensive tackle Marcus Mbow to fill in at left tackle. Mbow has been inconsistent when he’s been asked to step in, but now gets much-needed reps to improve.

At the moment, the severity of Thomas’s injury is uncertain, and it’s unclear whether he’ll finish out the final two games of the year. However, a potential silver lining is getting to see Mbow play and evaluate his ability as a starting offensive tackle. Getting to play two games in a lost season could be beneficial for momentum towards his development.

Additionally, with no chance of making the playoffs, it may benefit the Giants to be extremely careful with Thomas. With his injury-riddled career, aggravating something in the process of rushing him back is unnecessary.
