This should be the only proof the Giants needed to start Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson after their loss to the Chiefs

The New York Giants fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 22-9 on Sunday Night Football in a game that felt far too familiar.

Both teams entered the game winless after two weeks, seeking to bounce back. Of course, the Giants served as the sparring partner for a genuine title contender looking to get its rhythm back.

The Chiefs did not play anywhere near their normal level of dominance. Their win was sloppy, marked by numerous penalties and miscues. And of course, the Giants could not capitalize on those issues.

It’s already Week 3, and there’s no path to redemption in sight. After that loss, let’s take a look at the three most important takeaways.

It’s clearly time for Jaxson Dart

The Week 2 Russell Wilson explosion was all a facade. Many Giants fans were extremely excited about the potential of the Giants’ offense after the unexpected output from the passing game. It all came crashing down in this game with two brutal interceptions by Wilson.

Wilson finished the game with 160 passing yards, two picks, and only 18 completions on 32 attempts. It was also apparent that Wilson was so confident in his patented moon ball that he would launch it into double coverage.

Overall, Wilson looked terrible. He was erratic and made several inexplicable decisions. His final red zone trip perfectly epitomized how awful he was in this game.

If Wilson is going to be this inconsistent week over week, I find it hard to believe Dart will be much worse. To the crowd that is against rushing Dart onto the field, it needs to be recognized that he’s a 22-year-old rookie with 45 games played in college. If his confidence and mental state are so fragile that they need to be protected for a full season, then he’s likely not meant to succeed in the NFL.

At the very least, give fans something to be excited about and start Dart next week.

Andrew Thomas was a blessing

Another argument that has been discussed regarding the start of the season is that the offensive line couldn’t protect Dart. Star left tackle Andrew Thomas’ return was proof that the offensive line will improve once he’s back full-time.

Thomas started the game for the Giants, and the offensive line’s performance was suddenly steady and reliable. They strung together a long drive (that didn’t lead to any points) with multiple long rushing plays. Thomas also looked phenomenal when squaring off with Chris Jones and the Chiefs’ other top rushers.

Sadly, the Giants clearly decided to be careful with Thomas’ health situation and opted to let rookie Marcus Mbow finish the game.

Ultimately, this is a positive step for the Giants, as they are expected to have Thomas back full-time in the next few weeks.

Hello Cam Skattebo

An unexpected, exciting outcome for this game was a productive night from rookie running back Cam Skattebo. He finished the night with 10 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground and six receptions for 61 yards. His 100-yard scrimmage day wasn’t even the best part, as he pulled off an electric touchdown celebration.

With Tyrone Tracy going down with a potential injury after a brutal sideline hit, Skattebo will likely continue to get touches. His emergence as a weapon for New York starting in Week 3 is exhilarating.
