What Tommy DeVito has done for the Giants this season has been nothing less than spectacular. DeVito's biggest mark was not his game winning drive against the Packers, or his three game win streak, or even his record against THE Bill Belichick. DeVito's mark was that the Giants deserve better.
This is in respect towards Daniel Jones, the offensive play-calls, and what's that one thing called that the Giants rarely do? Oh yeah, winning football games. DeVito is leading a path towards success for himself, but will he be the face of this franchise?
No argument necessary, there should and will be a quarterback competition in New York this offseason, that is a given. I personally believe Daniel Jones wins that competition 10 out of 10 times, and that is fine, they are both NFL talents, but Jones is a former top-10 pick. At the end of it all, the sad truth is the Giants will remain a losing team with a mediocre quarterback steering the ship.
This is where the legend of DeVito comes in. Giants owners, coaches, fans, they realize they do not want Jones, they do not want DeVito, they want someone new that is exciting and can win. The Giants need to get their hands on a new quarterback to lead this team.
The Giants have wasted Saquon Barkley, they are about to waste this defense, but for gods sake, do not waste Brian Daboll. DeVito has been awesome, Jones has been odd and fun at weird times, but there needs to be a new guy who everyone will love.
And most importantly, play consistently enough to where the Giants are perennial playoff contenders.
This years draft class is packed with players who have the playing capability of DeVito, the physical attributes of Jones, and all of the talents necessary for Daboll to mold. Let the Giants come back to stardom, let them be great.
Giants fans need to thank DeVito for showing them they deserve better, whether it is him or someone else.
