It is time for the New York Giants to make a decision. Safety Xavier McKinney is an unrestricted free agent after his first four years with the Giants. Will the Giants make the right decision in signing McKinney or will they look into the draft to find his replacement?
The Giants just lost DC Wink Martindale, and if the Giants do not sign McKinney, one has to think they will end up together somewhere. Wink played McKinney and linebacker Bobby Okereke on every single snap this season. A leader of this defense's future could be in jeopardy.
If the Giants want a shot at having a successful season next year, re-signing McKinney to a long-term deal is a must for this franchise.
McKinney's 2023 season wrapped up with 116 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. From a safety whose main job is blitzing and in the box specialists, those numbers are pretty impressive. Also, in case you forgot, he played every single snap this season.
McKinney is a leader, he is a fighter, and without him you are losing one of your three leaders on defense, and especially your leader in the secondary. Do not waste an opportunity like this to keep him in New York, because he will shine even brighter anywhere else.
