Aaron Rodgers felt disrespected by Aaron Glenn. Not necessarily because of the head coach's decision to move on from the quarterback after taking over the New York Jets, but by the way things shook out.
In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, the veteran quarterback didn't reveal his future—a final call hasn't been made. But he didn't hold back in his criticism of Glenn.
"That was an interesting two years, to say the least," Rodgers detailed. "I figured that when I flew across the country, there was going to be a conversation."
Rodgers revealed that Glenn's mind was already made, so he didn't understand why the Jets asked him to travel East.
"The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking. He runs out of the room. I'm like, that's kind of strange," Rodgers added. "Then, he comes back with the GM, and I'm like 'Alright.' So we sit down in the office. And I think we're going to have this long conversation. I flew across country. And 20 seconds in, he (Glenn) goes. . . Literally, I'm talking to the GM about something, he leans to the edge of the seat, 'You sure you wanna play football?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I'm interested.' He says 'We're going in another direction at quarterback.'
For Rodgers, the problem was not the decision by itself.
"I was kind of shocked. I mean, not shocked because I thought it was a possibility, listen, they wanna move on, that's totally fine," the veteran said. "But shocked because I just flew across country, he could've told me this through the phone."
According to Aaron Rodgers, Glenn and the new Jets leadership wanted to adjust the messaging of the release, to which Rodgers said "I don't give a s—."
"That whole situation was crazy," Rodgers pointed out.
Aaron Rodgers praised Jets vice chairman Christopher Johnson and their relationship during his time with the organization. After two years, he was released last month.
Now, Rodgers is officially a free agent and is available to sign with any team. Retirement is still a possibility, but Rodgers stressed that sensitive matters in his personal life are his priority at the moment.
