The New York Jets fell just short in their comeback against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, losing 23-17 after falling behind 17-0.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw the game-sealing interception on the Jets' final drive of the game. He was stifled by the tough Vikings' defense all day, but did manage to throw two touchdowns passes. Rodgers also achieved a major milestone during the game, becoming just the ninth QB in NFL history to throw for over 60,000 yards.
Rodgers now has 60,148 passings yards for his career. He trails Hall of Famer Dan Marino by 1,213 yards for eighth all-time, which he should eclipse this season as long as he stays healthy. Rodgers will also have a shot to leapfrog Matt Ryan at seventh this year with 2,644 more yards.
If Rodgers plays through 2025, he'll likely slide into fifth all-time in passing yards, jumping ahead of Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger. He'll have some work to do to get to fourth, trailing his former mentor Brett Favre by 11,690 yards. Regardless of where Rodgers winds up, he's already a first ballot Hall of Famer.
However, Rodgers' biggest remaining goal is to win another Super Bowl. His first one came all the way back in 2010 during his days with the Green Bay Packers. Since then, despite having a ton of individual success, it's been one heartbreaking postseason loss after another.
Rodgers and the Jets are off to a rocky start in 2024 with a 2-3 record, but are far from out of it. Rodgers is still getting back into the groove of things after missing all of last year with an Achilles injury.
One positive sign from Sunday's loss was that Rodgers finally showed some chemistry with top receiver Garrett Wilson, hooking up with him 13 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. New York also remains on Davante Adams watch, as the Las Vegas Raiders star receiver remains on the trade block.
