Jets are to blame for setback in Jordan Travis' rehab from leg injury according to his agent

When you have the league’s worst owner as voted on by the players, and you haven’t made the playoffs in almost a decade and a half, you open yourself up to be blamed for a lot of things, even if they aren’t really your fault. That is the case the New York Jets find themselves in with their sophomore quarterback Jordan Travis. Or at least his agent seems to think so.
Deiric Jackson, the second-year quarterback’s agent, recently claimed that Travis’ return was delayed after the Jets attempted to rush him onto the field before he was ready.
The Jets drafted Travis in the fifth round of the 2024 draft out of Florida State knowing that his recovery would be a long and slow one considering the extent of his injury. Travis was putting together a potential Heisman-winning season for the Seminoles in 2023, until a hip-drop tackle resulted in a fractured and dislocated ankle in mid-November.
The Jets selected Travis in order to stash him away for a few seasons and hopefully find themselves a steal in the draft. Afterall, they wouldn’t need him to sniff the field for a few years with Aaron Rodgers at the helm and veteran backup Tyrod Taylor on the team, right?
But the way the 2024 season went, the Jets currently find themselves in a situation where any glimmer of hope for a quarterback of the future is needed, and naturally, all eyes are turning to Travis. But his agent believes that the Jets messed up his rehab during his rookie season which resulted in a setback.
“His rehab with the Jets was not the best,” Jackson told ESPN's Rich Cimini. "They tried to rush him. It was too fast. There was pressure on the coaching staff and they tried to get him going sooner than the timeline really was. That caused the setback, and we had to shut him down completely.”
Although Jackson didn’t specify the nature of the setback, reports suggest Travis experienced swelling and soreness in his surgically repaired left ankle. A team spokesman defended the Jets and claimed that they adhered to the rehab plan created by Travis’ surgeon.
Jackson said he’s “optimistic” about Travis being ready for the 2025 season, but it’s difficult to believe that his experience with the team hasn’t already negatively affected the trajectory of his career.
In all honestly, this feels like an agent trying his best to make his client sound like his injury wasn’t worse than originally thought. Or maybe even trying to make it sound like Travis isn’t injury prone. Travis didn’t practice one time with the Jets in 2024. That’s the agent’s job. To make everything bad sound like someone else’s fault and everything good sound like it is by the grace and talent of the client. I’m not buying it.
Travis had a devastating injury, and while the Jets are looking for any option at quarterback for 2025 and beyond, he is simply not ready to compete for the job. That reason may be because of the injury or may be for some other reason that isn’t known. Either way, I doubt a new regime is really considering a guy who has yet to put on pads in the NFL a realistic option to be the team’s starter.
So, if the Jets make move for a quarterback of the future, where does that leave Travis? His agent is in scramble to blame the Jets for his client’s inability to play so he can potentially catch on with another franchise that will treat Travis with more care and patience.
I hope Travis gets healthy and gets a chance to start in the NFL. But I don’t buy the Jets being to blame for his continued rehab.
Jets GM’s comments put anything and everything on the table when it comes to what can happen with their first round pick
The New York Jets have a lot of holes to fill on their roster and not a lot of opportunity to do it. That is why it is going to be up to new general manager Darren Mougey to be efficient and smart in free agency. But that won’t be the only time he will […]
