Dalvin Cook really wasted no time.
Just two days after he and the New York Jets mutually agreed to part ways, Cook signed with another team. And he certainly picked a good one based on the way the season is going.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Cook signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
Cook's motivation for leaving was to join a playoff team and potentially contend for a Super Bowl. And the Ravens have locked down the No. 1 seed in the AFC, earning a first round bye.
So that will give Cook an additional week to learn the offense.
The Ravens lost top running back J.K. Dobbins early in the season after he tore his Achilles, and it has been Gus Edwards who has taken over at the top of the depth chart.
Having signed with the Jets prior to the start of the season, the result was not what Cook had hoped for. He ended with only 67 carries for 214 yards and no touchdowns. In his seven year career, this was by far his worst performance.
Cook signed a one-year, $8.6 million deal, joining Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. However, no one could have predicted the MVP quarterback would tear his Achilles just 75 seconds into his debut, knocking him out for the season.
And with that, the Jets went from a possible Super Bowl contender to a struggling team with quarterback issues once again.
In October, Cook expressed his frustration with his role in the offense.
“Of course it’s frustrating,” Cook said. “I’m an honest person. I want to play. Yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s new to me. I come from getting the ball 20 times a game or however many times. Yeah, of course it’s frustrating.”
Cook played behind Breece Hall, who was coming off an impressive rookie performance. And he doubled his production in his second year, recording 186 carries for 816 yards and four touchdowns across 16 games this season. On the receiving side, he also has 74 receptions for 579 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
That didn't leave much for Cook to do.
But hopefully the Ravens will be able to utilize him. And hey, he may even go on to win a Super Bowl.
