The New York Jets have a new head coach after the team made a shocking decision to fire Robert Saleh on Tuesday morning.
Multiple sources report that the Jets have named defensive coordinator Jeff UIbrich the interim head coach.
The Jets are coming off a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, currently sitting at 2-3 on the season.
With Aaron Rodgers in the pocket along with many of the other weapons they have on both sides of the ball, many considered New York to be a playoff contender. But based on the way they started the season, it's not looking that way.
And that's why the team decided to make a change. And while many thought that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett would be the first to go, the team went in a different direction.
Ulbrich is a former player, having played linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2009. He joined the Jets staff in 2021. Now he gets a shot at the head job.
According to NFL Insider Albert Breer, Saleh came into work on Tuesday morning and then is when Jets owner Woody Johnson informed him of the decision.
The loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 4 combined with the close loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London was the final straw. With one year left on his contract, Saleh ends his time in New York with a 20-36 record.
The team will now rely on UIbrich when they face off against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.
