After what seemed to be like a fantastic offseason for Robert Saleh, Joe Douglas and the New York Jets, things have taken a turn in the last few weeks.

After lying to the team about his intentions following the trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, star pass rusher Haason Reddick continues to be a no-show at the Jets facility. Speaking of no-shows at the facility, the media is having a field day because Aaron Rodgers missed two practices.

And now the Jets had a player arrested on drug charges and cut from the team.

Cornerback Tae Hayes was arrested on Sunday morning in Alabama. He has been charged with marijuana possession, which is a second-degree misdemeanor. He was taken to the Morgan County jail by the Trinity Police Department and was booked at 3:46 a.m. After posting a $300 bond, the was released at 5:07 a.m.

One day later the Jets released Tae Hayes the team announced.

Hayes signed with the Jets practice squad last Oct. 3 and was elevated for the game against the Eagles in Week 6. He recorded two tackles during the victory over the then unbeaten Eagles but did not appear in another contest for New York.

He originally signed with the Jaguars in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State and has had stints with six teams including the Dolphins, the Panthers, the Patriots, the Vikings and the Ravens. He's played in 14 career games and has 18 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 pass defenses.

Hayes was likely not going to crack the 53-man roster as the Jets continue to boast one of the best defensive backfields in the NFL. They are lead by All-Pro Sauce Gardner who will spend more of this season traveling with the opposition’s best receiver. Alongside Gardner is D.J. Reed who is entering a contract year after working his way to being one of the top outside corners in the game.

Michael Carter II is also in a contract year, and is one of the best slot corners in the game. Outside of that starting three, the Jets have a true diamond in the rough in rookie Qwan’tez Stiggers who has been turning heads so far in camp. They also still have Brandin Echols who was a former starter for the team before the arrivals of Sauce and Reed.

Hayes will have a chance to plead his case in front of a judge in Alabama, but it won’t be wearing a Jets jersey.
