The New York Jets have made a final call and will move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. While that move was somewhat expected, it brings different levels of repercussions for everything around the team.

And one obvious connection is what will happen to wide receiver Davante Adams. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, now the Jets are inclined to part ways with Adams as well, since his big motivation to be on the Jets was his friendship with Rodgers.

Davante Adams is slated to make $36.25 million in each of the next two seasons, but those were always inflated numbers to make his yearly average look better when the Las Vegas Raiders signed him back in 2022.

For Adams to stay in New York, he would have to be open to a paycut. And with Rodgers out, it simply doesn't make sense.

If the Jets cut or trade Davante, they would have $8.362 million in dead money. It can also be $2.09 million in 2025 and the rest in 2026, if the Jets decide to use a post-June 1st designation. However, each team only has two such designations, and the Jets are already likely to use one of them with Rodgers himself.

Davante Adams played 11 games for the New York Jets in 2024. He had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns, as good of a performance as one could expect from an older receiver being acquired at the trade deadline. Adams is 32.

The Jets gave up a third-round pick to the Raiders to acquire the wide receiver back in October. It was a conditional second-round pick, but the condition was Adams making an All-Pro team or the Jets making it to the AFC Championship Game, none of which happened.
