Latest update regarding Jets coaching and GM search is an absolute joke that is actually happening

Imagine breaking up with your longtime girlfriend, who thought you were going to marry her and who treated you well. Now, picture it’s a few years after your breakup and you call her up and ask if she wants to grab a coffee. She sits across from you expectantly. You gaze in her eyes and ask, “can you help me create a dating profile or set me up with one of your friends?”.
That is essentially what Woody Johnson is doing with his GM search.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Woody is hiring The 33rd Team to help them find their next general manager and head coach. Mike Tannenbaum and former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman will lead the search for the NFL Technology and Media company.
Mike Tannenbaum was the Jets GM from 2006 until the end of the 2012 when he was fired by Woody Johnson. Tannenbaum succeeded Terry Bradway as Jets GM was the Jets GM that hired Eric Mangini and Rex Ryan as head coaches during his tenure. Tannenbaum also drafted notable Jets players including D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Mark Sanchez and Darrelle Revis.
Tannenbaum lost his job after the 2012 season after back-to-back AFC Championship appearances just two years prior. Woody Johnson was unwilling to let Tannenbaum lead the rebuild effort the GM exhausted a large portion of resources for a potential title run. Woody Johnson instead turned the franchise over to John Idzik, arguably one of the worst GMs in Jets history only to follow that stellar decision up with Mike Maccagnan who wasn’t much better.
Now Woody is going back to Mike Tannenbaum to help find a GM and head coach to lead the Jets through another rebuild. The 33rd Team will provide its data analysis and experience to assist the Jets in their search for new leadership.
The 33rd Team’s job won’t be easy thanks to Jets owner Woody Johnson, who continues to make a mess of things. Recently, things have gotten progressively worse for the Jets after firing their GM of six years, Joe Douglas and reports that they are not interested in having Aaron Rodgers back even though he intends to play somewhere in 2025. Woody can use all the help he can get in his GM search especially after publicly making the job as unappealing as possible.
Some names to watch out for according to The 33rd Team’s recent publication for GM candidates include Jeff Ireland(New Orleans Saints), Ed Dodds (Indianapolis Colts), Mike Borgonzi (Kansas City Chiefs) and Ray Agnew (Detroit Lions).
There may be some awkward interviews happening at 1 Jets Drive as the two former partners search for the next person to try and take the Jets to the playoffs.
