It's the hope that kills you.

The Jets had hope right until the very end of their latest defeat to the Patriots, only to see it snatched away in heartbreaking fashion.

Having struggled to move the ball all day and trailing 15-10, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson found Garrett Wilson for a 29-yard completion to give New York a shot at a 54-yard Hail Mary with one second remaining.

For all Wilson's faults, he has the arm to complete a throw of that distance, and he came agonizingly close to doing so and pulling off a miracle finish.

Wilson got the ball to the endzone, where it was batted down by Patriots defender before it then bounced off the fingertips of veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb, who would have had the simple task of rolling over the goal line for the win.

Instead, it is a 15th straight defeat to New England for the Jets, who, after losing Aaron Rodgers on the fourth play of the season, must be wondering when the pain will end.
