The New York Jets organization can breathe a sigh of relief.
Aaron Rodgers appeared to have suffered an injury on Tuesday, during the Jets' second practice of organized team activities, multiple reporters confirmed.
Yet, it appears the quarterback will not be sidelined for a longtime.
ESPN's Dianna Russini posted a photo of Rodgers off to the side of the field, reporting that he was "favoring his ankle" and that "something clearly not right."
Minutes later, she tweeted again, saying "Rodgers looks to be trying to put some weight on it while watching practice to the side. He is standing with the teams head strength and conditioning coach."
New York Post's Brian Costello followed up this report, adding that "It looks like we won’t see Rodgers practice today. He is watching the drills with no helmet. The good news is he is still out here. If he was really hurt, he would be inside. It is also May 23."
Following the completion of Tuesday's activities, there was good news on the injury front, with Rodgers only sustaining a minor injury.
CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reported that Rodgers has a strained calf and is not expected to be back "fairly quick."
Rodgers was a major addition to the Jets offense during the offseason, with the trade officially going through at the end of April. The Green Bay Packers traded Rodgers along with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a fifth round pick (No. 170) to the Jets in exchange for the Jets' first round pick (No. 13th overall), a second round pick (No. 42), a sixth round pick (No. 207) and a conditional 2023 second-round pick. Yet, the conditional pick has the opportunity to turn into a first round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the Jets offensive snaps in 2023.
With the Jets having to give up quite a lot for the MVP quarterback, it would be a shame for an injury to sideline him longterm – but luckily they won't be without him for too long.
