Jets' Rodgers makes it clear on and off field that he is here to win
It’s almost like the Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers isn’t the Aaron Rodgers that joined the New York Jets. The guy that was portrayed to be coming over from the Packers was a sullen, malcontent diva who was only interested in taking care of himself. That is not the guy we are seeing […]
It’s almost like the Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers isn’t the Aaron Rodgers that joined the New York Jets.
The guy that was portrayed to be coming over from the Packers was a sullen, malcontent diva who was only interested in taking care of himself. That is not the guy we are seeing at One Jets Drive so far.
Rodgers has been hinting for a few weeks his intention to stay past the 2023 season with the New York Jets and on Wednesday, he all but made it official when he signed a new contract with the Jets.
The numbers on the contract are not some gaudy, superfluous, mega numbers that would entice a QB of Rodgers’ stature to come to franchise like the Jets simply to go out in a Brinks truck. They aren’t even numbers that are respectable for the talent he has shown for almost two decades.
They are the numbers of a quarterback who is on a mission to win and will do everything he can to bring a championship to himself and the franchise he is a part of. He doesn’t come close to getting the money he would get if he tested the open market in free agency.
Everything Rodgers has done since deciding to come to the New York Jets out of the darkness retreat has been ideal in every sense of the word. He made his intentions clear to come to the Jets and even reportedly spurned the great Bill Belichick in his attempt to lure Rodgers to the New England Patriots (tell me that doesn’t feel good, Jets fans).
He has shown up to team events. He has shown up to OTAs. He has been seen around the New York area trying to make himself a part of the community.
Now, he is reworking his contract to make sure that general manager Joe Douglas has some room to work with under the cap for this year and next year. He even took a $35 million pay cut.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network thinks the Jets might even be able to make another
“splash” signing this offseason or at the deadline with flexibility Rodgers’ contract offers them.
But that isn’t the only thing Rodgers is doing for this team. We have all seen the reports of how he iced out Jordan Love in Green Bay. In New York, we are seeing a guy who wants to lead and a guy who is willing to help. And, just to kill yet another narrative – he sent Love a very supportive text before Packers camp began
He is a teacher and a coach on the field. He is constantly making sure the small details are ironed out and the team is on the same page. He is even helping to bring Zach Wilson along after taking his job.
Rodgers is doing everything he can to bring a championship to the New York Jets. He is making it known in every way possible that he is here to turn this franchise around. Honestly, he has the ability and talent to do it.
Aaron Rodgers motivated with the Jets
The 2023 season might not be the same old Jets because from the looks of it, the 2022 season doesn’t feel like the same old Aaron Rodgers. When the Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers, there were two big lingering questions that were the dark clouds hanging over the Jets and their fans as to how […]
