The New York Jets have been busy in free agency and doing mostly what Joe Douglas vowed to do when he took over the job- address the interior.

So far this off season, the Jets have acquired Javon Kinlaw and Leki Fotu in free agency and resigned Solomon Thomas on defense. On the offensive side of the ball, they signed OG John Simpson, OT Tyron Smith and acquired Morgan Moses via trade.

With work done along the interior on both sides of the ball, Joe Douglas has been looking to the outside for some help.

Much like Joe Douglas raided the Baltimore Ravens for reinforcements along his offensive line, he has his sights set on one team for help on the outside: the Los Angeles Chargers.

While Keenan Allen ultimately was traded to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round selection in April’s draft, Allen said there were two other teams that were exploring a possible trade for his services. The Houston Texans, and the New York Jets.

The Chargers gave Allen a say in where they would ultimately trade him and he was okay with a move to any of those places, but the Jets were likely scared off by his $23 million cap hit this season and the Bears won the day by offering the fourth-round pick.

Allen would have been a really nice addition to the Jets receiving room and a steady veteran presence, but without doing some work to his deal, it was simply not in the cards for the Jets to take on that kind of salary.

But that isn’t the only former Chargers wide receiver the Jets will pursue this off-season. Reports are that after newly released wideout Mike Williams meets with the Carolina Panthers this week, his second stop will be to Florham Park to meet with the Jets.

This is the second player this week the Jets will have to wait to talk to until he arrives from Charlotte, with reports of Jadeveon Clowney stopping at the Carolina Panthers' facility before heading up to New York.

Williams was highly regarded by the Jets brass when he was a free agent last time, but he ultimately wound-up resigning with the Chargers. Joe Douglas and co. are getting a second bite at the apple to bring Williams to the big apple.

Williams is highly skilled, explosive but oft injured player who simply can’t be counted on to provide consistent success. The Jets are fine to have their exploratory conversation with him, but in the end, this isn’t a player I would gamble on.

Williams has missed 26 games in seven seasons due to various injuries including 14 last year due to an ACL injury he suffered in Week 3. The Jets will have enough injuries to worry about week in and week out next season without adding more into the mix.
