Mike Williams, we hardly knew you.

Just a few short months after signing a one year, $10 million deal with the Jets after eating a delicious breakfast sandwich, Williams is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, Williams has two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. Williams, who is coming off a torn ACL suffered last season, has 166 receiving yards on the year. He never seemed to get in sync with quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the point where Rodgers called him out for not running the right route on an interception that sealed the game against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.

Williams became expendable after the Jets traded for Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders just after that blunder. Williams has only seen two targets since the Jets brought in Adams.

Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee when news broke of the trade and gave his immediate reaction to Williams heading out to Pittsburgh.

It sounds as if the writing has been on the wall for Williams to depart the franchise and it will be best for everyone involved that this deal went through. Williams will instantly become the second best receiver on a Steelers team that is likely headed to the playoffs.

In exchange for the 30-year-old Williams, the Jets will receive a 2025 fifth-round pick. That will give the Jets two fifth rounders and two sixth rounders in the 2025 draft. They had an extra third round pick as well from a draft day trade with the Detroit Lions last season, but they will have to send one of them to the Raiders for the Adams trade.

This move will open the door for young players like Malachi Corley and Xavier Gipson to get more playing time in the second half of the year. Corley may still be in the dog house after his blunder against the Houston Texans.

This was a fantastic move by Jets GM Joe Douglas for getting top value for an expendable asset. Douglas has plenty of flaws as a GM, but getting the most value for players in trades is one of his biggest strengths.

The NFL saves Jets fans from another miserable evening with one easy decision

Sometimes things don’t always go the way you plan it. Certainly, for the 3-6 New York Jets, this isn’t how they thought the season would go. The same could be said for the Indianapolis Colts and their young quarterback, Anthony Richardson. But just because things don’t go the way you drew them up, doesn’t mean […]
