Tuesday was not a good morning for the New York Jets as they get ready to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night in week one of the NFL season.

For starters, while there was some speculation and hope that today might be the day Haason Reddick would report to the Jets facility, he has continued to do what he has done since being shipped out from Philadelphia, which is nothing.

Reddick was a no show at the Jets facility today making it almost certain that he will be unavailable for the Jets week one matchup against the 49ers in San Francisco on Monday. While head coach Robert Saleh wouldn’t officially rule him out for week 1, it is almost certain that he will not play. Saleh is very confident in the defense he has, with or without Reddick, and looks at getting Haason back as “finding loose change in the couch”.

If and when Reddick does show up to the Jets facility, Saleh believes the Jets will welcome him with open arms.

So far, Reddick has been fined roughly $2.05 million for missing all of training camp. If he doesn’t show up for the opener, he’ll be surrendering a game check.

Reddick signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2022 season. After they traded him to the Jets for a draft pick, the two teams worked out the financials and the Jets will be responsible for paying Reddick $14.5 million in 2024. That means every game Reddick misses by continuing to hold out will have him surrendering $852,941.

That is a lot of money to watch slip away each week as Jets GM Joe Douglas made it clear he won’t negotiate while Reddick is out of the building.

While the Jets are dealing with their star player continuing his holdout, the San Francisco 49ers are seeing all their roster issues reach a positive conclusion. After signing Brandon Aiyuk last week, the 49ers welcomed back All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams back ending his holdout.

While it is unclear at this point if Williams will be ready to go against the Jets, he is one of, if not the best left tackle in the NFL and will post a significant upgrade to the 49ers offense if he is able to play. And he won’t have to try and stop Haason Reddick either.

The Jets will also have to deal with Williams paving the way for all-everything running back Christian McCaffrey, who missed most of training camp with a strained calf, is back at practice for San Francisco.

The Jets will certainly have their hands full as they kick off the NFL season against a 49ers team that is made whole again while the Jets still wait for Haason Reddick to decide if he wants to play football this season or set the record for most money lost due to ego in NFL history.

Former first round pick spurns Jets in favor of division rival

No deal is done until its signed. A lesson the Jets have learned a few times in the past. And they were reminded again of that fact this week. After being cut from the Minnesota Vikings, former 2022 first round pick Lewis Cine was reportedly going to try and resurrect his career with the Jets […]
