Malachi Corley thought he had put the New York Jets on the board during their Thursday Night football clash against the Houston Texans.
And initially, the officials agreed.
However, upon further review, it turns out the Jets receiver made a very costly mistake.
Corley released the ball in celebration, but it was before he crossed the goal line. So technically, he fumbled the ball and because it went into the end zone, it resulted in a Texans touchback.
So not only did the Jets lose six points, but they also lost the ball in solid field position.
“The runner stopped the ball before crossing the goal line," the referees said after reversing the call (via Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein). The ball then subsequently rolled to the back of the end zone out of bounds which is considered an immediate recovery. Touchback.”
And this brought back memories of DeSean Jackson's premature touchdown celebration back in 2008. Who can forget when he fumbled on the 1-yard line during his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
And not to mention, he had done it earlier in his career, fumbling the football when flipping into the end zone in high school.
Considering the way the Jets season has gone, this is the last thing that team needed.
