The New York Jets offseason plans have been already been very much centered around giving their new quarterback Justin Fields the best shot at success. It shouldn't be surprising at all to see the Jets continue to go all in on offense in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Jets already selected offensive tackle Armand Membou out of Missouri in the first round at pick seven. Their first pick in the second round? Mason Taylor, TE LSU. Son of Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor.

Mason Taylor has been one of the most consistent tight ends in all of college football for the last three years, snagging at least 36 receptions in every season with the LSU Tigers.

When I spoke with him at the NFL Combine he broke down in detail what exactly sets him apart, talking through how he grew into a do-it-all weapon for the LSU Tigers that head coach Brian Kelly often would brag on throughout last season.

"You know that's just a tight end's job [to be versatile], doing everything. That's why I love it. Being that complete tight end. Being that answer for the run game, the pass game, and protection game. It's huge for me. LSU gave me the opportunity to be kind of like that dark horse of the offense. Doing everything behind the scenes and also catching the ball as well."

Mason Taylor should fit right in with the Jets, filling a massive, potentially every down role for New York early in his rookie season. And given the great need for pass catchers, Taylor might actually operate as the team's de facto WR2 from the tight end position.

Mason Taylor Scouting Report

Tight End, LSU

Age
(Birthday): 20 (05/08/2004)

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 65

Pre-Draft Round Projection: 3

Mason Taylor–the son of Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor–is a throwback TE in terms of size, with a modern-day skillset. He can runs solid simpler routes, working as a reliable dangerous option in the passing game, and has natural hands to make tough catches in traffic. However, his game has very little nuance. There is very little detail to his route running, which has room to grow. Also, despite the fact that he has traditional tight end size at over 6'5" and 250 pounds, he does not show a level of blocking ability that should match his physicality. The good news is, Taylor is just 20 years old, has Hall of Fame bloodlines, and is a natural athlete with a lot of room for growth. He can develop into a solid TE who starts in the league. – A to Z Sports' NFL Draft Analyst, Rob Gregson
