The New York Jets have trimmed their roster to the mandated 53 player limit, and now it's time for them to assemble their practice squad. We learned from last season that a team can never have too many usable players under team control with the number of injuries that occur.
NFL practice squads can include a total of 16 players. The Jets will bring back numerous players that they've cut, but they could also claim a couple of new faces, as they did with safety Lewis Cine. They Jets are allowed a 17th player because Obinna Eze qualifies as an international player being from Nigeria. Here is a reminder of the rules regarding the types of players who can be added to the practice squad:
- Players who do not have an accrued season (I.E. rookies).
- Players who were on the active roster for fewer than nine regular-season games during their only accrued season(s).
- Up to four players per team with no more than two accrued seasons.
- Up to six players per team with no accrued season limitations (I.E. vested veterans).
The first two types of players cannot exceed a total number of 10 of those types. With all of that in mind, below is an up-to-date list of the Jets' reported practice squad additions:
