The Chicago Bears agreed to a deal with linebacker TJ Edwards, an underrated free agent, just after the legal tampering period started on Monday.

Shortly after the Edwards signing, news broke that Chicago is also working to sign one of the top available free agents.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that Chicago is targeting right tackle Mike McGlinchey. According to Russini, both sides are hoping to get a deal done.

McGlinchey is a great fit for the Bears.

Chicago appears to have their left tackle of the future in Braxton Jones (what a great fifth-round selection by Ryan Poles and the front office). Landing McGlinchey would give the Bears a stud at right tackle. And that translates to a better situation for quarterback Justin Fields.

McGlinchey excels as a run blocker which works well with Chicago's run-heavy offense (the Bears were No. 2 in the NFL in rushing attempts in 2022).

The coveted offensive lineman said his free agency would be quick and it appears that will be the case if the two sides can get this deal done.

Update:

The Bears have competition for McGlinchey. According to Russini, the Denver Broncos are also in the mix to sign the coveted right tackle.

Update 2:

The Broncos swooped in and stole McGlinchey from the Bears. A tough break for Chicago, but it's clear that Poles didn't want to go into a bidding war.
