Week 4 Power Rankings A to Z Sports

In Week 3 of the 2023 NFL season, we saw "swifties" become football fans, an NFL record was broken, and, oh yeah, a team dropped 70 points.

Follow all the NFL's trends throughout the season with us here at A to Z Sports. Each week, we will release an updated NFL power rankings based on the most recent performances by each NFL team. If you missed Week 3's power rankings, click here.

NFL Power Rankings Week 4:

1. San Francisco 49ers (3-0) ↔️

The San Francisco 49ers continue to look like the most well-rounded team in the NFL. This past week, though, we started to see QB Brock Purdy look human after all. He seemed to be playing with fire throughout the first half of the game with some of the errant throws; luckily for him and the 49ers, the Giants couldn't capitalize off Purdy's mistakes. If the 49ers are the most talented team in the NFL and have luck on their side, other teams are going to struggle to catch them this season.

2. Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) ↔️

The Kansas City Chiefs seemed to have bad blood with the Chicago Bears in this one, as they pounced on them early and never let go of the lead. There was nearly a blank space in the score collum for the Bears, but they were able to put 10 points on the board after the Chiefs pulled most of their starters. The Chiefs have won two in a row after losing their season opener to the Detroit Lions. They had to look themselves in the mirror and say shake it off, in terms of that loss, and they seem to have done just that. They now move to 2-1 on the season and now are preparing for their Sunday Night Football matchup with the New York Jets, who are trying to figure out how to succeed now that their love story with Aaron Rodgers ended prematurely due to injury.

3. Miami Dolphins (3-0) 📈 2

I'm not sure there are words to fully explain the Miami Dolphins win over the Denver Broncos, but a number might do it 70. That is the amount of points that the Dolphins put up on the Broncos in this one, and believe it or not, they had the opportunity to score more. The Broncos had no answer for the Dolphins offense that was firing on all cylinders in this one. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns, rookie RB De'Von Achane rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns, and Tyreek Hill contained his impressive 2023 season, catching nine balls for 157 yards and a touchdown. With this performance, the Dolphins have placed themselves in the top tier of the NFL in terms of being a true Super Bowl contender.

4. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0) ↔️

While the Philadelphia Eagles have struggled at times, it hasn't affected their record as they improved to 3-0 this week with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles defense, though, looked very similar to the impressive unit we saw make it to the Super Bowl last season, as they only allowed the Buccaneers to score 11 points on the day and helped the Eagles to dominate time of possession. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts didn't have his best day this week as he threw two interceptions on the day, but as Hurts has made it very clear, he only cares about winning football games.

5. Buffalo Bills (2-1)  📈 1

After their disappointing loss to the New York Jets to begin the season, the Buffalo Bills seem to be on a mission. They've left no doubt on the field in the last two weeks who the best team playing is. They've outscored the Las Vegas Raiders and Washington Commanders in their previous two games by a combined score of 75-13. They now head into a big-time matchup with the blazing-hot Miami Dolphins in Week 4. That matchup not being in a primetime slot is a shame.

6. Dallas Cowboys (2-1) 📉 3

The Dallas Cowboys suffered multiple setbacks this week after two impressive weeks to start the 2023 season. They learned that star CB Trevon Diggs suffered a torn ACL in practice on Thursday. And that injury seemed to roll over into their matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. As they didn't just lose to the Cardinals, they never really made this one a game as they were dominated for the majority. Bad losses happen, so I don't think this game should outweigh the impressive two weeks prior. They will have to put that loss in the back of their mind and work on rebounding against the New England Patriots to get their season back on track.

7. Baltimore Ravens (2-1) ↔️

8. Detroit Lions (2-1) 📈 2

9. Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) ↔️

The Cincinnati Bengals needed a win in the worst way possible in Week 3, and they found a way to get it done. QB Joe Burrow played at nowhere near 100%, and you could physically see that the injury impacted his play. He and the Bengals gritted out a 19-16 win to prevent them from falling to 0-3 and instead move to 1-2. They now have a short week ahead of their Week 4 matchup with the Tennesee Titans and will look to stack another win as they attempt again to resurrect their season from a 0-2 start.

10. Cleveland Browns (2-1) 📈 3

11. Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) ↔️

12. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) 📉 4

13. Green Bay Packers (2-1) 📈 1

The Green Bay Packers were down but not out in Week 3. They were down 17-0 and scored 18 unanswered points to come back and defeat the New Orleans Saints. The Packers did this with multiple key starters missing. The post-Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay starts 2-1, with Jordon Love looking very impressive. The Packers will now hope to get healthy on a short week before they take on the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football this week.

14. New Orleans Saints (2-1) 📉 2

15. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1) ↔️

16. Seattle Seahawks (2-1) 📈 2

17. Minnesota Vikings (0-3) 📉 1

18. Indianapolis Colts (2-1) 📈 9

The biggest risers in this week's power rankings are the Indianapolis Colts. They got their first win in Baltimore over the Ravens since 2009. And did so without their electric rookie QB Anthon Richardson. Head coach Shane Steichen continues to shine in his first year as an NFL head coach and the playcaller for the Indianapolis offense. But the most impressive unit in this one was the Colts defensive line, who had the task of facing Lamar Jackson, and when they needed to make plays, they consistently found a way to do so. And oh yeah, I can't forget to mention the historical performance from kicker Matt Gay, who became the first kicker to ever make four 50+ yard field goals in the same game. Don't look now, but the Colts sit alone at the top of the AFC South at 2-1, with a favorable stretch coming up on their schedule.

19. Los Angeles Rams (1-2) 📉 2

20. Washington Commanders (2-1) 📉 1

21. New England Patriots (1-2) ↔️

22. Atlanta Falcons (2-1) 📉 2

23. Tennesse Titans (1-2) ↔️

The Tennesee Titans offense continues to be a problem, but not the good kind. They struggle to move the ball consistently and have been outscored 67-45 to start the season and sit at 1-2. The duo of QB Ryan Tannehill and RB Derrick Henery have been disappointing to start the season, and getting them back on track seems to be the key to the Titans offense being unlocked. But to get them on track, they must find a way to fix their struggling offensive line. They will now face the Cincinnati Bengals pass rush, who sacked Matthew Stafford of the Rams six times on Monday night.

24. New York Jets (1-2) 📉 2

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ↔️

26. New York Giants (1-2) 📉 1

27. Las Vegas Raiders (1-2) 📈 1

28. Houston Texans (1-2) 📈 2

29. Arizona Cardinals (1-2) 📈 3

The most shocking victory of the week came from the Arizona Cardinals, who dominated the Dallas Cowboys. Coming into the season, the thought around the Cardinals was that they were certainly tanking due to their roster limitations. But that has not been the case, as this team has been competitive in all three of their games to start the season. And they seem to be playing very hard for rookie head coach Jonathan Gannon. Teams would be wise not to underestimate this Cardinals team, as they've shown they will capitalize if you do and are not scared of their underdog title.

30. Denver Broncos (0-3) 📉 4

31. Carolina Panthers (0-3) 📉 2

32. Chicago Bears (0-3) 📉 1

Every season, there seems to be a team/situation that just completely goes off the rails. Last season, it was the Indianapolis Colts, for example. This year, it sure looks like it is the Chicago Bears. Every week, they find a way to look even worse on both sides of the ball. And this past week, they even added off-the-field issues to their plate of dysfunction. This seemed to impact their play on the field, as they were embarrassed in Kansas City vs. the Chiefs. The Chiefs pulled most of their started in the 3rd quarter due to the game just feeling over for both sides already. The Bears will need to figure this out quickly because these situations seem to worsen if you don't right the ship.
