NFL Power Rankings Week 7:
1. Kansas City Cheifs (5-1) 📈 2
For only the third time this season, we have a new number-one team. New may not be the correct word, as the Kansas City Chiefs have gotten pretty accustomed to being viewed as the best team in the NFL. After losing their season opener, the Chiefs have won five straight and are tied for the best record in the NFL. They may not be beating teams as convincingly as some may like, but they are finding a way to win through their struggles while trying to figure out their questionable WR core. We haven't seen the Chiefs at their best yet this season, which should worry some teams.
2. San Francisco 49ers (5-1) 📉 1
The San Francisco 49ers six-week stretch at the top of our power rankings ends following their Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The 49ers loss was the biggest shock of the week, even more so as the Browns were without their starting QB. The 49ers offense struggled against the Browns defense all day, though, and QB Brock Purdy had his worst game of the season. Long-term, I don't think this game impacts the 49ers outlook on the season, as they remain one of the clear favorites to be holding up the Lombardi trophy in February, but adjustments will need to be made as other teams in the NFC are lurking.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) 📉 1
Week 6 wasn't kind to the last undefeated teams, as the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New York Jets. The Eagles have been struggling on both sides of the ball as they adjust to their two new coordinators but were still finding a way to win. In Week 6, that wasn't the case. Jalen Hurts had his worst game of the season, as the Jets defense was swarming all game long. Their lead in the NFC East now falls to a one-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys. We assume that the Eagles will look comfortable with their new normal at some point, but they better figure it out quickly.
4. Miami Dolphins (5-1) ↔️
The most exciting show in the NFL continues as the Miami Dolphins improved to 5-1 on the season. And there certainly is an argument to be made for QB Tua Tagovailoa to be a MVP candidate, if not the front-runner. They struggled early this week against the winless Carolina Panthers but hit their stride and beat them handily, as expected. A big test is on deck for the Dolphins who will be going head-to-head with the Eagles in Week 7.
5. Detroit Lions (5-1) ↔️
How about those Detroit Lions? Both sides of the ball are clicking in October, and they find themselves 5-1 on the year. This team plays hard, fast, and, most importantly, good, sound football. In a NFC that many deemed a two-team race between the 49ers and Eagles, the Lions have put themselves on par with the best in the NFC and the NFL. Dan Campbell and his team don't want to be labeled a "dark horse" or a "sleeper." They are looking like serious Super Bowl contenders.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) 📈 1
7. Buffalo Bills (4-2) 📉 1
8. Dallas Cowboys (4-2) ↔️
A big win for the Dallas Cowboys over the Los Angeles Chargers this week. And QB Dak Prescott had his best game of the season in the process. Prescott looked comfortable even under duress on the day, as he stayed cool, calm, and collected to lead his team to a victory. The Cowboys defense seems to be figuring out life without Trevon Diggs (out for the season with a knee injury). And now they find themselves only one game back from the Eagles in the NFC East. Overall, the NFC is looking to be significantly improved, as at least four teams seem to be in the Super Bowl picture.
9. Baltimore Ravens (4-2) 📈 1
10. Cincinnati Bengals (3-3) 📈 2
11. Cleveland Browns (3-2) 📈 2
The Browns defense came to play in Week 6, as they took down the undefeated 49ers. They were without their starting QB, which made it clear that the defense had to play lights-out to give their team a chance, and they exceeded expectations. They made the 49ers look human and made it clear to the rest of the NFL that they can play with any team any given Sunday. The Browns seem to be getting Deshaun Watson back this week, as they have the Indianapolis Colts on deck. They picked an excellent time to have this level of play, as the AFC North race is picking up fast.
12. Los Angeles Chargers (2-3) 📉 3
13. Los Angeles Rams (3-3) 📈 1
14. Seattle Seahawks (3-2) 📉 3
15. New York Jets (3-3) 📈 6
What's better than one undefeated team going down? Well, two of course. In a similar story to the Browns, the Jets defense made a statement this week. They were all over the Hurts and the Eagles offense in this one and did so without some of their best defensive players in the secondary. Life after Aaron Rodgers' injury had the Jets season looking bleak, but they seem to be finding their identity now and look to be a tough matchup for any team on their schedule the rest of the way.
16. Houston Texans (3-3) 📈 7
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) 📉 2
For the first time this year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw Baker Mayfield look like a QB who is on his fourth team. The Lions defense didn't allow Mayfield and the offense to get comfortable in this one, as they only scored six points total on the day. The offensive side of the ball has to be better if they want to hold on to the top spot in the NFC South. A race that looks to be a season-long one, as the Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons look to be in the running for the crown.
18. New Orleans Saints (3-3) 📉 2
19. Indianapolis Colts (3-3) 📉 2
20. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) 📉 2
21. Washington Commanders (3-3) 📈 1
22. Green Bay Packers (2-3) 📉 2
23. Atlanta Falcons (3-3) 📉 4
This season, The Falcons offense will take one step forward, followed by two steps back. A week after a big comeback win over the Houston Texans, where Demond Ridder had his best NFL game, he returned to Earth, it seems as he threw three interceptions against a Washington Commanders secondary that has struggled mightily this season. The Falcons have too many very talented weapons for Ridder to misplay this. Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts deserve better.
24. Minnesota Vikings (2-4) 📈 2
25. Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) ↔️
26. Tennesee Titans (2-4) 📉 2
27. Arizona Cardinals (1-5) ↔️
28. New York Giants (1-5) 📈 1
The New York Giants may have fallen to 1-5, but they showed fight this week over the Buffalo Bills. It was the best day we've seen out of their defense this season. And they almost became the third team with their backup QB to get an upset win over a Super Bowl contender this week. The Giants are falling too far behind in a talented NFC East race after six weeks, but they showed the talent on this roster this week. They certainly have things to figure out on the offensive side of the ball, but this performance is one this team needed after a disastrous start to the 2023 season.
29. Chicago Bears (1-5) 📉 1
30. Denver Broncos (1-5) 📈 1
31. New England Patriots (1-5) 📉 1
32. Carolina Panthers (0-6) ↔️
Kevin Stefanski provides update on Deshaun Watson heading into Week 7 against Colts
This week is going to tell a lot about his availability.
Jets stun Philadelphia Eagles behind stout defense
It looked like the Philadelphia Eagles came into MetLife stadium believing the Jets, missing several players, would simply roll over and allow them an easy victory. But Robert Saleh and the Jets defense had other ideas. The Jets pulled off a stunning upset of the unbeaten Eagles 20-14. The win brings the Jets to 3-3 […]
