The NFL considered Brazil and Spain as their potential next two markets to host games. In the end, both countries will receive the league. After the NFL officially announced a Philadelphia Eagles game in São Paulo in week 1 of the 2024 season, Spain will also host a game in 2025.
The NFL matchup will be held at Santiago Bernabéu, a classic soccer stadium from Real Madrid.
The NFL is quickly growing internationally. At first, the league had concentrated its focus outside of the United States in the United Kingdom, especially London.
But over the last few years, the league expanded its international approach to Mexico, Germany, Brazil, and now Spain.
Over NFL history, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Ireland, and Australia have received preseason or regular season games.
Spain has actually had two preseason games in the 1990s. In 1993, the San Francisco 49ers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, and in 1994, the Los Angeles Raiders won an overtime game against the Denver Broncos. Both games were held at Estadi Olímpic, in Barcelona. So the 2025 game will be the first ever in Madrid.
The Eagles are migrating to Brazil for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season
Game will be played on September 6, in São Paulo
