The NFL decided to keep its entire week 17 schedule as previously determined, without flexing any games. That means Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers fans will kick 2024 off pretty happy or pretty mad about their teams.
Without any flexed games, the Packers at Vikings game will be played on New Year's Eve at 7:20pm CT (8:20pm ET). The final moments of the game will be played minutes before the New Year's countdown.
Why they did it
Initially, it was looking like the Packers-Vikings game in week 17 wouldn't be very important and could be flexed.
However, both NFC North teams are in the wild card race — not only are they fighting for a playoff spot, they are direct contenders. So, it was an easy choice to keep the game on primetime for NBC.
Other scheduling topics
This week, both the Packers and the Vikings play at 12pm CT. The Packers go to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers, while the Vikings receive the Detroit Lions in Minneapolis.
Curiously, the Vikings face the Lions again in week 18, on January 7. The time slot, however, will only be determined after week 17 games. That also applies to the Packers, who face the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field to close out their regular season.
