Trent Brown, Patriots training camp 2023

Trent Brown's future with the New England Patriots has become very clear.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Brown's contract "will void today without an extension from the team, setting him up to be a free agent March 13, per source."

With this move, the team will carry $2 million in dead cap space for the 2024 season.

Brown spoke with A to Z Sports earlier in the season about the possibility of returning to the Patriots and made his opinion on the matter very clear

"We already had that opportunity," Brown told A to Z Sports. "We have had plenty of opportunities to get that done. I mean, I'm not opposed to it, but we are at the end of the season…

"… It'd be kind of like, I feel like I'd be kind of doing myself a disservice to not see what other opportunities are out there, just at this point."

Brown had a short stint with the Patriots in 2018, winning a Super Bowl with New England. However, he left to join the Raiders, but was traded back to New England in 2021 with two yeas still left on his deal. In 2022, the Patriots re-signed him to a two-year, $13 million contract.

His expectation was to be re-signed by the Patriots once again, but that didn't happen, even though he was told it would.

"Yeah. It would have been done when they said it was going to get done. When I signed the last one," Brown said. "The one I signed two years ago, I was told that I would, if I had a good year then I would; we should get it fixed. It never happened."

But this wasn't a complete surprise to the offensive tackle.

"Understandably though. I mean there has been a lot of sh** going on, a lot of moving parts. No offensive coordinator. So it's all good," Brown added. "Like I said, it is what it is. I'll be where God wants me to be."

So let's see where he lands next.
