The Kansas City Chiefs' win on Christmas Day came with an additional present for the team.
They secured the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, meaning they get a first-round bye along with home-field advantage.
And while this was a big goal for the entire team, getting that first week off from the playoffs meant a little bit more to Patrick Mahomes.
"I told my pregnant wife I was gonna get her the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby," Patrick said after defeating the Steelers. "So we got the one seed."
Prior to the game, Patrick sat down with host Kay Adams and revealed why he really wanted this bye more than usual.
He explained that Brittany, who is pregnant with the couple's third child, is "due any day now"
And Patrick has not made things easy for his wife because of all the one-score games the Chiefs' have been in this year.
"Brittany says I've been stressing her out too much this season," Mahomes said with a laugh. "So, I gotta try to not put so much stress on her through these football games and get the bye.
"Hopefully, God works the right way and maybe we can have the baby on the bye week somewhere and then everything will work out perfectly."
Mahomes told reporters after the game that he is preparing as if he is starting for the team's Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos. However, if Brittany goes into labor, at least he won't have to worry about how missing the game could effect the playoffs.
But a baby during the bye week would be the ultimate goal.
We'll just have to wait and see if things work out that way.
