It feels so far away right now, considering how the New England Patriots' season has gone, but there was a time when this team almost escaped with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Patriots opened the season against the Eagles, hosting Jalen Hurts and the rest of the former NFC championship squad at Gillette Stadium in Week 1.
While Philadelphia escaped with a 25-20 win over the Patriots, many forget that the New England defense held the Eagles to one touchdown against them (the other was a pick-six).
So because of that, Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux put Nick Bosa on blast after the 49ers defensive end sent a message to the Cowboys about their upcoming matchup against the Eagles.
And Godchaux's advice for the Cowboys is to take a look back at the film from the Patriots Week 1 loss, because their defense does have one advantage on the stats sheet over the 49ers.
What did Nick Bosa say?
The defensive end spoke to reporters after the 49ers came away with a dominant win over the Eagles last week.
Philadelphia was able to score two touchdowns against the San Francisco defense. And that strong defensive performance encouraged Bosa to speak publicly, sending a clear message to the Cowboys.
"Hopefully the Cowboys watch the tape," Bosa told reporters via The Athletic's David Lombardi. "We made Jalen stay in the pocket and escape outside instead of those B-gaps and it paid off. Because Jalen is looking at the rush every play."
So all in all, Bosa believes they "put the blueprint out there."
Hurts threw for 298 yards in the Eagles loss last week, but only had 20 rushing yards on seven carries. Against the Patriots, he threw for 170 yards, but had 37 rushing yards on nine carries.
The Cowboys would be wise to listen to both players because the Eagles have been known for knocking Dallas out of the playoffs. And they have an extra chip on their shoulder after Philadelphia came away with the win in their first matchup this year.
While the Patriots don't have any stake in who wins and who loses, it's still fun to see Godchaux defend the defense.
