The future of A.J. Brown with the Philadelphia Eagles remains murky. Discussions around the NFL Scouting Combine did not quiet many whispers that Howie Roseman may trade him this offseason.

Devonta Smith’s support in Eagles org could help them trade A.J. Brown

In a recent NFL Combine buzz piece, Matthew Berry outlined how the Eagles’ strong belief in Devonta Smith as a top wide receiver could help them choose the route of trading Brown.

“Regarding A.J. Brown, the Eagles are undecided on keeping him or not. They are definitely listening and are open to moving him as has been widely reported. But one thought around Brown possibly leaving that I hadn’t heard before was that the Eagles LOVE DeVonta Smith. They think, as good as he’s been in the NFL, he still hasn’t reached his full potential and has “another gear” he can get to.

That, if Smith were given the same kind of target share as Jaxon Smith-Njigba, he could have that kind of year. They believe in his talent that much and that’s among the many reasons they would be okay moving Brown.” — Matthew Berry

There is clear faith in the building that Smith can lead the WR room on and off the football field. He’s become a fan favorite, even if his production has had a lower ceiling at times due to Brown’s presence in the receiving room.

The future of Dallas Goedert

Berry also dropped a nugget that has been a popular concept in recent weeks as well. The Eagles are widely expected to lose TE Dallas Goedert during free agency. That is one major reason that Oregon star TE Kenyon Sadiq is a popular mock draft pick for them.

“While many of the Eagles headlines these days are about whether A.J. Brown will stay or go, one player I’m told that will definitely be moving on from Philly this offseason is Dallas Goedert.” – Berry

Goedert’s exit woud be a touch pill to swallow, as he has become such a consistent piece of the Eagles passing game. Not to mention, new OC Sean Mannion is expected to use the TE position plenty along the offense after how well he helped to develop Green Bay Packers Tucker Kraft over the past couple of years.

No matter what – replacing Goedert will be near the top of the Eagles’ to-do list this offseason.
