Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was one of 22 who voted in favor of banning the Tush Push this week.

However, while speaking to reporters about his decision, Jones revealed it had a lot more to do with shutting down NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles than the actual play itself.

"Any play that’s out of the ordinary gets some extra scrutiny just because of the competition in there,” Jones said at the NFL owners meetings in Minneapolis. “Here we are, the world champion is the main focus of the tush push, and here we are debating it, and having to decide. I thought, am I really against the tush push, or just don’t want Philadelphia to have an edge?”

Asked which it is, Jones said, “I don’t know. I flip flop.”

While any team can run the Tush Push, a specialized version of the quarterback sneak, the Eagles simply execute it better than anyone else in the NFL. Their success rate hovers around 86%, which is well above the league average of 76% in recent seasons.

Had the NFL banned the play this week, it would’ve slightly reduced the Eagles’ offensive threat, but not significantly. They're still a strong team, with or without it.
