It was a sight for sore eyes for the Philadelphia Eagles as Jalen Hurts made his return to practice on Thursday. It was his first time back on the field since injuring his shoulder in the Birds' Dec 18 win over the Chicago Bears.
Hurts appeared on the Eagles’ Thursday practice report as a limited participant. Hurts, who has been dealing with a sprained SC joint in his throwing shoulder, was able to get some light work in during the session.
While his status for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints is still up in the air, it’s expected for Hurts to push toward suiting up. Head coach Nick Sirianni spoke on the star quarterback’s unique ability to recover.
The Eagles are faced with a tough decision later this week. Hurts is as tough as they come, but Philadelphia must consider the risk.
Back-up quarterback Gardner Minshew flashed at times in last week’s loss to the Cowboys. If there is any potential risk of re-injuring his shoulder, or further aggravating the injury, Hurts shouldn’t step on the field.
However, Hurts has done plenty to earn Sirianni’s trust. If he says he’s able to suit up, then it’s likely he’s made available on game day.
