Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made NFL history on Christmas Day as he led the Birds to a 33-25 win over the New York Giants.
He set a new league benchmark in the first quarter of the game as he rushed for his 15th rushing touchdown of the 2023 season, breaking Cam Newton's 2011 record for most rushing scores in a single season.
Hurts' record-breaking touchdown came on the Eagles' infamous 'Tush Push' play, just like several of his other TDs have, but according to Newton, that doesn't make them any less impressive.
"Jalen is definitely a product of a situation that is favorable to his strengths, similar to what I was, too," Newton said during his '4th and 1 with Cam Newton' podcast this week. "When I see Jalen Hurts doing it, it doesn't make me bitter. Records are documented to be broken."
Newton hasn't played an NFL snap since his short-lived second stint with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He remains the leader in career quarterback rushing touchdowns (75) and is second in career quarterback rushing yards (5,628).
But if you asked Newton about any of his stats, he couldn't tell you where he ranked on the all-time list.
"I don't pay attention to that s–t," Newton said. "I don't give a damn about the things that I've done… When I see Jalen Hurts doing what he's supposed to do, am I gonna say, 'Well, he had a lot of help?' Hell, no. Break all them motherf—ers."
Hurts has now recorded 41 total rushing touchdowns over his career so far, ranking fourth on the all-time list behind Newton (75), Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen (51) and Hall of Famer Steve Young (43).
