Former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst Chris Simms is going to have to answer to a lot of Philadelphia Eagles fans for this crime.

During Super Bowl week Simms joined the PHX Arizona Cardinals Podcast where he called Eagles' MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts "overrated" and said that Kyle Murray would have done a better job under center in Philly.

“I respect a lot about Jalen Hurts, but I think Jalen Hurts is also like the most overrated player in football,” Simms said. "That’s me, I know I’m wrong, I take a lot of crap about that comment. But he plays quarterback for a team that’s an all-star team, they have the best O-line in football, it’s not even close. I just think if you put some other quarterback in Philly, you put Kyler Murray in there, you’d say ‘Damn, Kyler’s amazing. Is he the MVP of football?’

“And I think we lose sight of all that a little bit. It gets into the quarterback team thing where right now we’re all about the quarterback, and he’d be one of those guys that I certainly would go, hey, when Kyler is on his game, he is every bit in the class of Jalen Hurts in my opinion.”

While Hurts did not look like his 2022 Super Bowl season this past year, Hurts still performed at a high level as he completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns through 17 games. He also added 15 touchdowns on the ground, breaking Cam Newton's 2011 record of 14. Additionally, his efforts earned him a second Pro Bowl nod.

The Eagles did drop a 10-1 season, but it's hard to put that kind of blame on Hurts when the coaches didn't put him in a better position to win with their playcalling.

Simms is notorious for hating on Hurts, so this is nothing new. But this is definitely a freezing-cold take.
