Commanders coach fires potential warning at Eagles and creates cloud of drama for final matchup of season
The Commanders coach isn’t holding back regarding this rivalry with the Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles are flying high right now. Fresh off a division-clinching win over the Washington Commanders, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about how the team is playing. That being said, some late-game drama between the two NFC East foes created some intriguing storylines for the end of the regular season.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn stirred that pot a bit more after his team lost to the Eagles during a clash in which a fight broke out in the fourth quarter, with the result already decided.
Dan Quinn subtly warns Eagles following the brawl during Commanders’ loss
The head coach for Washington had plenty of coach-speak following his team’s loss to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon, but a piece of his responses stood out to many people.
When asked about the Eagles’ choice to go for two late in the game with a sizable lead, Quinn mentioned that the two teams play again in a couple of weeks. He also noted that it was “their call” to attempt the two-point conversion at that point in the game.
“If that’s how they want to get down, all good,” Quinn said. “We play them again in two weeks.”
You can feel the tinge of frustration from the veteran coach. Quinn has been around the NFL for quite some time and is absolutely no stranger to heated rivalries. He was a part of the Atlanta Falcons’ rivalries with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys. Accordingly, Quinn’s NFC East ties are strong.
It is also worth mentioning that if the Eagles played a bit too aggressively in the late stages of the matchup, the Commanders played too passively. Quinn chose to punt the ball on fourth down with six minutes left in an 11-point game. Keep in mind that Washington is 4-10 and eliminated from playoff contention.
Linebacker Bobby Wagner doubled down on the sort of sentiment that Quinn laid out after the loss as well, when asked about the two-point attempt by Philly.
Saquon Barkley gives brutal truth about rivalry following the fight
The Eagles running back did not shy away from the tussle that occurred late in the game, either. He understood why it happened because the two teams are not fans of each other. Emotions ran high, and that was the outcome, even if it wasn’t something they were proud of occurring in the end.
Barkley had an impressive outing, and the Eagles’ passing game proved fairly efficient once again. Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown were the most pivotal attack for much of the game, and that’s a good sign for the Eagles.
As for the final game against Washington, it is possible that it is a fairly meaningless game for both teams. The Commanders may be playing with a third-string QB and thinking of draft position, while the Eagles may or may not be able to climb the NFC seeding rankings for the postseason.
