Latest blockbuster NFL news removes potential suitor from A.J. Brown trade sweepstakes
They won’t be trading for the wideout now.
There is plenty of time left this week of madness to shake out, but that trades are already happening around the NFL. On Wednesday, Pro Bowl cornerback Trent McDuffie was dealt away from Kansas City.
Now, Thursday already has a trickling of intrigue to it, and the Philadelphia Eagles assuredly have a close eye on all of it.
Buffalo Bills no longer a candidate for an A.J. Brown trade
The NFL felt a bit of a quake on Thursday morning when reports flooded out about a D.J. Moore trade. The Chicago Bears wide receiver is heading to the Buffalo Bills in a trade that is being finalized between the two sides.
This will take the Bill sort of the running for a possible A.J. Brown acquisition. The Eagles are in no position to “have to” move Brown, but they are fielding interest and seeing what may be on the table for the star WR.
“The Bills trading for WR D.J. Moore would theoretically take them out of the A.J. Brown market. They checked in with the #Eagles about their wide receiver, from what I understand. Patriots and Ravens are the most likely potential partners, especially as I understand it, the Eagles inclined to only deal with AFC teams.” — Jeff McLane via X/Twitter
NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed recently that Buffalo was a contender in the trade market for Brown and had interest in acquiring a potential WR1 for quarterback Josh Allen.
Brown may remain in Philadelphia through this offseason. Trading him before June 1 would incur a $20.1M cap loss for the Eagles, so the return from another team would have to incorporate that negative aspect of Philly moving off of him.
That is a tall ask for anyone who has interest in adding him to their offense, and it takes two to tango. For the Eagles, another potential suitor for that trade is now off their radar.
