The Philadelphia Eagles announced their first roster move of the offseason this week.
The team released backup center Nick Gates on Tuesday.
Gates, 29, initially signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2018 NFL Draft. He played for New York for five seasons before joining the Washington Commanders in 2023 and then Philly last summer.
He saw action in nine games for the Birds this past season and logged one start at center in the team's regular-season finale versus the Giants. Unfortunately, Gates suffered a groin injury leading up to the Super Bowl and was placed on Injured Reserve.
That didn't stop him from celebrating the Eagles' 40-22 Super Bowl win any less, however. Gates pulled a Jason Kelce and was spotted shirtless in freezing-cold weather at the Eagels' parade on Valentine's Day.
At this point in Gates' NFL career, he has logged 40 starts through 66 games.
Gates has experience playing center, guard, and some right tackle. A majority of his snaps in recent years have been taken at center.
