After signing wide receiver Julio Jones to the practice squad on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles aren't wasting any time in unleashing him.

The veteran is already being called up to the gameday roster ahead of their huge Sunday Night Football showdown against the Miami Dolphins. This will be Jones' first practice squad elevation of a potential three before having to be signed to the 53-man roster.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the short notice of it all. Many NFL teams prefer to give recent signings some time before actually playing them. Even with Quez Watkins' navigating injury, the elevation is a surprise.

Earlier in the week, head coach Nick Sirianni indicated their goal for Jones wasn't for him to become the offense's workhorse, which should be obvious considering what A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith mean to the Eagles offense.

"Julio, you’re going to be tempted to want to put him in because he’s a phenomenal player that’s done a lot in this league," Sirianni said when discussing their intentions regarding the veteran. "We are going to have to make sure that we’re not putting him in danger."

Sirianni seemed very aware of the injury risk for Jones if he ends up playing too much. The 12-year veteran has missed 21 games in the last three years and hasn't played a full season since 2018 when he led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,677.

Where it'll be key to watch Julio will be when the Eagles are sniffing the red zone. With his size, Jalen Hurts will have another favorable matchup to exploit in contested throws. Hopefully, the addition helps the team's red zone woes. They'll need the points against the high-scoring Dolphins.
