The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back a familiar face to help out their young secondary.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported late Wednesday that the Eagles have signed safety Marcus Epps.

“Reunion: Veteran safety Marcus Epps is signing with the #Eagles, per sources. Epps played for Philadelphia from 2019-2022 and started in Super Bowl LVII. Now, he returns as a veteran presence in a young secondary for the defending champs,” Pelissero wrote on X/Twitter.

Epps, 29, spent four seasons with the Eagles from 2019 to 2022, where he played a key part of their Super Bowl LVII run, starting all 17 regular-season games and all three postseason matchups that year.

A sixth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, Epps was waived during his rookie season and picked up by the Eagles. After finishing out his rookie contract in Philly, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency and started every game for them in 2023.

Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in 2024. He then signed with the New England Patriots this offseason but didn’t make their final 53-man roster. If fully recovered, Epps could be a valuable depth piece in the Eagles’ secondary, bringing veteran experience and familiarity with the system.

The Eagles currently do not have a clear starting safety opposite Reed Blankenship, but are leaning toward Sydney Brown or rookie Andrew Mukuba. They have also been cross-training slot cornerback Cooper DeJean at safety.

In addition to signing Epps, the Eagles also signed long snapper Charley Hughlett.
