General manager Howie Roseman has done it again.
The Philadelphia Eagles are finalizing a trade to send defensive end Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a mid-round draft pick. The deal is expected to be completed after June 1, allowing the Eagles to manage salary cap implications more effectively, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It gets even better for Philly since the Eagles won't have to fully pay Huff's guaranteed money.
"Before the trade can get finalized next week, the Eagles restructured Bryce Huff’s contract this week," Schefter reports. "He was set to make about $17 million fully guaranteed this season from Philadelphia, but the Eagles now will take on only $9.05 million in salary, leaving the 49ers responsible for the remaining $7.95 million due to Huff this season."
The Eagles had initially signed Huff to a three-year, $51 million contract last spring with hopes of replacing Haason Reddick's production. That didn't work out since Huff had an extremely disappointing 2024 season after logging only 2.5 sacks over 12 games while missing five games due to a wrist injury.
This trade reunites Huff with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who coached him during his breakout 2023 campaign with the New York Jets, a season in which Huff tallied 10 sacks and led the league with a 21.8% pressure rate.
In Huff’s absence, the Eagles are expected to turn to newcomers Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche, along with sixth-round pick Antwaun Powell-Ryland, to help anchor their pass rush.
