The Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl LVII loss is becoming a tougher pill to swallow as the team's coaching staff keeps absorbing blows.

On the same day that the Indianapolis Colts announced they're hiring away offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to become their head coach, the Eagles are now set to lose defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

According to Ian Rapoport, Gannon is the guy for the Arizona Cardinals.

After a failed experiment with offensive guru Kliff Kingsbury, the Cardinals were down to two candidates. The choice came down to Gannon or Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

The Cardinals, just like the Colts, waited until after the Super Bowl to move forward with their coaching searches, a sign that both teams were targeting their respective Philadelphia candidates.

This means 2023 will be a huge year for Nick Sirianni, who many thought would be a Coach of the Year finalist following a 14-3 season.

Being able to replace coordinators is a must-have skill for head coaches that are able to sustain long-term success. Oftentimes, that's the difference between those who achieve long-term job security like Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, and others.

Replacing two coordinators in one year – especially play callers – is a daunting task.

Even after a Super Bowl appearance, Sirianni detractors argue that the Eagles HC is in the best situation possible. The 41-year-old coach will have a chance to silence the critics by keeping the ship afloat after losing his two coordinators.

Gannon's quarters-based defense was greatly influenced by Vic Fangio's philosophy and led the NFL in pass defense DVOA in 2022. The Eagles now look to replace one of the best defensive coaches on the team in recent memory.
