The Philadelphia Eagles keep building on the ultimate team-building masterclass even in the days leading up to Super Bowl LVII.

Now, the Eagles added knowledge and experience to the team in an unorthodox, genius-villain-type way: They signed renowned defensive coach Vic Fangio to a two-week contract and no one even heard about it until Super Bowl Sunday.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Fangio signed the deal and will join the Miami Dolphins as defensive coordinator on Monday.

How crazy is that? Yet it's such an obvious, smart move.

The Eagles have been running a lot of Fangio-ish defensive looks under defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon this season. They play many quarters coverages that take away opponents' deep throws.

In short, Fangio's defense focuses on 1) pre-snap rotation by the safeties to confuse the quarterbacks and 2) match concepts, which allow defenses to get the best of man and zone.

What better way to fine-tune things before the biggest game of the year than by bringing in the architect of this defensive philosophy?

Who knows who will win when the game starts but this is another example of what has allowed the Eagles to be this successful. Their aggressive mentality extends well beyond trades and free agency.

They make the necessary decisions to give their team the best shot even if it means bringing in somebody that wasn't around for the season and the coaching staff is humble enough to be open to new ideas even with a place secured in the Super Bowl.
