The Philadelphia Eagles are determined to get their secondary right and have signed another cornerback to spice up the competition this offseason.

On Friday, the Eagles announced they had signed defensive back Parry Nickerson.

Nickerson, 29, was one of four players who tried out during the team's mandatory minicamp where he took reps at outside cornerback and nickel cornerback.

Before coming to Philly, the former New York Jets’ sixth-round pick out of Tulane back in 2018 had previous stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings in his career.

Most recently, Nickerson Vic Fangio after spending last season with the Miami Dolphins, logging five tackles through five games playing 84 snaps on defense and 19 on special teams.

Eagles Have 15 Cornerbacks Competing for a Roster Spot

Adding Nickerson means that the Eagles currently have 15 cornerbacks and 20 total defensive backs on their 90-man roster:

  • Darius Slay
  • James Bradberry
  • Avonte Maddox
  • Mekhi Garner
  • Mario Goodrich
  • Quinyon Mitchell
  • Cooper DeJean
  • Isaiah Rodgers
  • Tyler Hall
  • Kelee Ringo
  • Eli Ricks
  • Josh Jobe
  • Zech McPhearson
  • Shon Stephens
  • Parry Nickerson

The Eagles' secondary was a major weak spot for the last, but it very well may be their strongest position now — at least on paper.

The Eagles drafted two cornerbacks in the first and second rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. And according to several reports, they're both making a smooth transition to the NFL level.

Returning from a one-year gambling suspension, Isaiah Rodgers has also been an early offseason standout, along with undrafted free agent Shon Stephens.

So it's safe to say that Nickerson will have his work cut out for him if he has aspirations of making the final 53-man roster.
